The Basics to Candle Magick
Magick can be as intricate as you’d like it to be. Period.
Your intention is what matters! There is no right or wrong way to practice magick, as long as your intentions are pure and are utilizing your intuition to what calls you.
You can use crystals, herbs, salt, additional candles, or ancestral items to support your candle. Or you can simply light a candle and say a prayer.
Core Components:
A candle
An intention
A calm setting that is also fire safe
Fire power
How To Select A Candle Color:
Take a moment to think about the word courage. Literally! Think about this word means to you.
Did a specific color come to mind?

For me, I think of the color red, which makes me feel brave and powerful.
Did you think of a different color? That’s great! Follow what calls you! There is no right or wrong color.
Choose what resonates and what is accessible to you.

Ritual Process
Intention:
When doing candle magick, make sure to have a clear intention. Feel into what feels the most alive for you. Try to stay away from calling in vagueness and be specific. Make sure your intention is concise and clear. Focused intention gives the magick more power and clarity.
Setting the space:
Find a way that feels good for you to cleanse the space by using smoke, sound, incense, etc. Make sure you place your candle in a fire safe area. When dressed with herbs and oils, chime candles tend to have sparks, so be sure to clear your area adequately.
Preparing your candle:
As said previously stated, candle magick can be as intricate as you’d like. But if you feel called, carving your intentions into the candle can be extra supportive for your intentions. You may carve words, symbols or anything that aligns with your intention.
Dressing Your Candle
While beneficial, this step is not essential. You may dress your candle before placing it into a candle holder, or after.
A Rootz & Ritual Pro Tip:
Oils may cause a more slippery surface, which make it more difficult for the candle to stay in place.
We recommend placing your chime candle either in salt or by using Stick-Um (Lina’s secret trick!) on the base of your candle.
Oils:
From ghee to olive oil, essential oils or those crafted specifically for anointing, the possibilities are endless. Choose what feels good and what’s accessible to you.
Herbs
While herbs are beneficial, they are not essential. If you choose to work with herb magick, here’s a guide to a few herbs you may have in your home already and their properties:
Cinnamon: speed, attraction, momentum
Basil: prosperity, good fortune, steady income
Bay Leaf: success, personal wishes
Clove: wealth, protection, amplified intention
Nutmeg: luck, expansion, opportunity
Allspice: success, confidence, forward movement
Chamomile: peace, trust, gentle abundance
Lavender: calm nervous system, ease around receiving, protection
Rose: self-worth, love-based receiving, magnetism
Lemongrass: clearing blocks, fresh starts
Mint: growth, renewal, money circulation
Thyme: courage, consistency, follow-through
Sugar or Honey: sweetness, attraction, ease
Coffee or Espresso Grounds: activation, momentum, drive, speed
